Let’s talk hair products! If you haven’t heard of or used Shea Moisture products you are missing out. Shea Moisture is one of my favorite product lines. Not only are their products loaded with all natural ingredients, they are also reasonably priced. I tried the Thickening Shampoo (12 0z.), Volumizing Conditioner (12 oz.), Thickening Moisture Mist (8 oz.) and the Anti-Breakage Masque (12 oz.) from Shea Moisture’s Organic Yucca and Baobob line. I purchased all products from Target for $9.99 per bottle.
Shea Moisture’s Organic Yucca & Baobob Line for Fine, Thin Hair

- Yucca-Thickens hair and helps to prevent hair loss
- Biotin-A powerful B vitamin that strengthens the hair follicle

Thickening Shampoo – This shampoo is the truth! It may be the best I’ve ever tried. (Yes! It’s that serious!) It’s a sulfate-free shampoo that does a great job of cleansing my hair and scalp. You only need a quarter-sized amount to get a crazy, velvety lather. It doesn’t strip my hair and leave that dry, squeaky-clean feeling you get with a lot of other shampoos. After shampooing with this stuff my hair feels very moisturized. Since I use so little during each wash it takes me about 4-6 months to use this entire bottle. Can you say staple?
Volumizing Conditioner – This conditioner can be used as a regular rinse-out conditioner or a leave-in conditioner. I’ve only used it as a leave-in conditioner/moisturizer. The consistency is pretty creamy, thin and light. When it comes to a conditioner, I’m looking for something that is a little thicker and coats the hair strands very well. Since this conditioner is a lot lighter, it serves as an awesome leave-in conditioner for me. I get the same results when I apply it to damp or dry hair; it penetrates the hair and leaves it feeling extremely moisturized and soft. When my hair dries it still maintains the moisture and softness. It also aids in detangling and softens up any tangles or knots I have. This is my favorite leave-in conditioner/moisturizer and yet another staple in my regimen!
Anti-Breakage Masque – I’ve searched high and low for the perfect deep conditioner for my hair. When it comes to deep conditioners and hair masques, I’m looking for something that is thick, creamy, coats my hair strands and gives my hair LIFE leaves my strands soft, shiny and moisturized. I’m also looking for something that has amazing slip and melts kinks, knots and tangles, making the detangling process a lot easier. This was not it. The consistency is very creamy and thick, but that’s the only good thing I can say about this hair masque. I really didn’t like how it felt going on my hair. It seemed to just sit on top of my hair and did not soften or moisturize it whatsoever. I let it sit on my hair for about an hour (and I even steamed with it) before rinsing. Detangling was impossible and after rinsing my hair it was anything but moisturized. This masque was a no-go for my kinks and curls. I won’t be repurchasing.
Thickening Mist – I really like this mist! When my hair feels dry, I apply a few squirts of this mist and it refreshes and revives my hair. It’s very light and soaks right into my hair strands. No greasy feeling or film. I used this as a braid spray when I had senegalese twists and I loved it. When I removed my twists my hair was so soft. I will definitely repurchase this but only when I’m rocking a protective style such as braids, twists, etc. Since I mainly use water and the Shea Moisture leave-in conditioner (mentioned above) as my main moisturizers, I really don’t feel the need to use this as much. It’s still an awesome mist though!
All the products have a very light pleasant scent…I actually love the smell. I can’t say I noticed any affects, but the mist did give my hair more volume when I applied it. Nonetheless, I think most of the products from this particular line are great! Although the masque didn’t work for me, I still give the Shea Moisture Yucca & Baobob line two thumbs up because my hair has fallen in love with shampoo, conditioner and mist! I highly recommend this shea moisture line.
Have you tried the Shea Moisture Yucca & Baobob line? If so, how did you like it?
I love Shea Moisture products! I use the Shea Butter Moisture part of the line…I have the shampoo, conditioner, and hair oil elixir. It makes my hair feel great. I’m still trying to figure out what works for me in regards to the oils but so far so good 🙂
So glad you tried them and they work for you! We must try the purification on your hair! 🙂
I love this line!!
Me too! I love their hair product, now I’m ready to try their skin and body products. Have you tried anything from the skin/body line?
I just came onto your post and found it quite interesting. I am also associated with organic beauty products, modern organic products, natural and organic products and love to enjoy the stuff on the same as its rarely found on internet. Thanks again for writing such a good post.
I’m going to look into purchasing some these products the next time I go to Tarjay. Love the fact that they are inexpensive. I’ll keep you posted! 🙂
They have several lines…be sure to check them all out! Shea Moisture is my favorite hair care line. Keep me posted!
I don’t use the Yucca and Baobob…I use the Organic Coconut and Hibiscus (pink bottle). It is for thick and curly hair. I love the smell of it. I love the curl enhancing smoothie…I use it and a bit of Eco styler gel when I do my twists. I use the curl and style milk after I spritz my hair to keep it feeling soft. I’m not a big fan of the coconut and hibiscus spray…it does not seem to work for me. I have yet to use the shampoo and conditioner, but I definitely want to give them a try. Just FYI, Walgreens also sells these lines (and they are sometimes only $7.99 or $8.99). CVS sells them too, but they up the price to about $11.99.
You know, the Organic Coconut and Hibiscus line is the only Shea Moisture line I haven’t tried yet. I’ve tried the curl enhancing smoothie and I like it! I will eventually try the entire line. I LOVE Shea Moisture products so I will definitely be experimenting all of their lines. The pink label just happened to be the last one on the list because my hair is not extremely curly or thick. I’d say it’s kinky and dense. Shea Moisture is my favorite product line so far.
I did the Anti-Breakage Masque again for the second time trying to give it a chance and sooorrrrry!!! Its a no-go. I used it as a pre-poo, and again as d/c on my 4bc hair. My hair was not soft or moisturized. It looked and felt dry like straw. I detangle my hair before adding this product and afterwards, my hair was a hot mess…no slip…no nothing. I had to detangle all over again. I was dissapointed with how this product performed. I will not purchase again and the rest of it will either end up in the trash or give to my neice to see if it will work better on her 3bc hair. On another note, I am in love with the Purification Masque. This did wonders for my hair and will continue to purchase.
I had the same exact results with the SM anti-breakage masque. I HATED it! I love the spray and leave in conditioner though. The SM purification masque is my absolute favorite. I have a blog post on that product as well.
I have tried the thickening shampoo, volumizing conditioner, the thickening milk and the mist and I must say I am pleased with all 4 products from the Yucca and Baobab line (sea foam green bottle) I am a product junkie so I have experimented a lot since I started this natural hair journey 3 years ago but you kinda have to try a lot of stuff to see what works for your hair texture and pocket!
I want to try the SM purification masque since it seems to be the one that gets the best reviews from the SM line! The Yucca line and the Gold bottle line are my favs!
