Flat Twist-Out On Natural Hair

Hola, Ladies!  So, I am not a big fan of twist-outs.  I LOVE them on other naturals but they just don’t seem to work out to well on my hair.  I always opt for my wash n’ go turned curly, kinky fro.  My co-worker rocked a gorgeous flat twist-out last week and suggested that I try one. If you aren’t familiar with twists, there are two different types of twists: two strand twists and flat twists.  Two strand twists are your simple individual twists.  Flat twists are similar to cornrows except they are done with two pieces of hair rather than three.  If you aren’t familiar with flat twists or how to do them, check out the link below. Blakizbeautyful is on of my favorite Youtube vloggers and this is one of many videos she has on flat twists.

I’m still working on my flat twisting skills, but I am managed to flat twist my entire head.  I flat twisted on dry hair and applied a light mist of water (moisturizer), a little whipped shea butter (sealer) and Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue (styler).  Well, I must say, I was very pleased with the results and I think I can get use to rocking this style more often!  I had great definition and I didn’t have to pick out or manipulate my hair too much because it just fell into place.  I’m loving the corkscrew curls!

My second day flat twist-out wasn’t as successful.  I tucked my hair under a bonnet last night and my hair was pretty frizzy this morning, so I decided to do a quick up do.  I spritzed my edges with water, brushed my hair up and secured it with ez-combs.  As you can see I wasn’t too happy about pinning it up. LOL

So, how do you ladies maintain your twist-outs?  I can never get past the 1st day!  Help a Sista out!

  1. Love that flat twist-out look! I haven’t been successful in flat-twisting my entire head yet. Need more practice. And patience.. and I also have trouble keeping any kind of ‘out’ look for more than a day… I’ll keep an eye out for tips! 🙂

    • Thank you! I’m a newby with the flat twist-outs. I will do a couple here and there, but I normally don’t do my whole head. Practice is key! I can maintain my wash n’ go and curly fro for several days, but I cannot do the same with twist outs! I really don’t want to retwist every night. I’m hoping to figure something out soon because I’m loving the flat twist-out. I just want it to last more than one day! Lol

  2. I might have to try the flat twist-outs. Watched the links that you posted, along with a few others, and they were very helpful. I’m really digging the styles, including the pics that you post, and if it’s something that looks cute, and not too hard to do, along with maintaining, I’m willing to try. Just have to work up the patience to sit there and do it. I’ll keep you posted. 🙂

  3. I think your twists are cute. Did u know there are a such thing called 3 strand twists too? I haven’t tried it yet but I will find and post some pics soon. In the mean time, stop being so hard on your twists styles. You rock them gorgeously.
